What you do

We invite pupils in lower and upper primary school (ages 7–14) to join a free body percussion workshop and explore the world of sound, rhythm and performance together with us. 🎵👋 In this playful session, children will discover how to use their own bodies as instruments – clapping, stomping, snapping and tapping – and learn to combine these sounds into fun and coherent rhythm patterns, with and without music. Working in a group helps them develop a sense of tempo, pulse, coordination and awareness of others, while encouraging imagination, cooperation and freedom of expression. Through movement and sound, kids naturally explore music, their bodies and their own creativity. What to expect 🖐️🥁 Exploring the body as an instrument: claps, stomps, snaps and body sounds Rhythm exercises with and without recorded music Building simple and more complex rhythmic patterns in a group Strengthening attention, teamwork and confidence through shared performance Workshop dates 📅 Workshops run on two Saturdays, with separate times for younger and older groups: 28 Feb (Saturday) Grades 1–5: 10:00–10:45 Grades 5–8: 11:15–12:00 28 March (Saturday) Grades 1–5: 10:00–10:45 Grades 5–8: 11:15–12:00 The workshops are not connected – participants sign up for one time slot only. How to register ✉️ Send an email to dorotea.racz@mbz.hr by Friday, 27 February, 12:00 PM, and choose the day and time that suits you best (earlier or later, depending on age). After registering, you’ll receive a consent form for a parent/guardian to approve or decline photo and video recording during the workshops and final performance. Any photos, video and audio may be used to document and promote the MBZ PLAY programme (website, social media and other MBZ channels). About the workshop leader – Josip Konfic 👨‍🏫🥁 For Josip Konfic, percussion is both a world and a calling. Already as a student at the Zagreb Academy of Music he performed across the globe – from Argentina to China – collaborating with leading Croatian ensembles and orchestras. Today, his main focus is sharing this experience with others: through teaching, educational projects and festivals he shows that percussion is not just an instrument, but a powerful medium of expression. He teaches at GU Elly Bašić and leads workshops across Croatia, helping young people find their own voice through rhythm and discover the joy that music brings to everyday life. About MBZ PLAY 🎭🎶 MBZ PLAY is a year‑round programme developed from the youth projects and workshops of the Zagreb Music Biennale. It focuses on collective creation, experimentation and creativity – playfulness for everyone. The first edition of MBZ PLAY is supported by the City of Zagreb and organised in cooperation with Centar za kulturu Trešnjevka (CeKaTe), as part of the Kultura u zajednici programme.

Agency

The Zagreb Music Biennial is Croatia's largest festival dedicated to the adventure of contemporary music. Since its founding in 1961, the MBZ program has been unburdened by genre limitations and accompanied by discussions, knowledge exchange, experimentation, and play. Every other year, a series of Zagreb spaces becomes a meeting place colored by all shades of contemporary music—from symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, and contemporary opera to jazz, improvised, electronic and alternative music, sound experiments, multimedia installations, and contemporary dance.
