🌺 7th Seminar on the Care and Preservation of Folk Costumes 👗 The Center for Intangible Cultural Heritage is organizing the 7th Seminar on the Care and Preservation of Folk Costumes, to be held on March 21, 2026 at the Cultural Centre Travno (Božidara Magovca 17, Zagreb), starting at 9:00 AM. The seminar is aimed at folklore dancers, KUD (folklore ensemble) leaders, wardrobe managers, choreographers, ethnologists and all enthusiasts who wish to gain practical, professional knowledge on how to preserve traditional costumes. The program includes both a theoretical and a practical part, focusing on: care and storage of costumes with longitudinal pleats – “falda do falde”, maintenance of leather footwear (cleaning, removing excess polish, storage), care of leather and fur garments. 🌿 Lecturers and topics Sara Vladić Ružić, MA in Textile Conservation & Restoration – theoretical lecture on starching, protecting costumes from makeup and caring for leather elements. The second part of the seminar will focus on folk costumes from Baranja, Posavina and Turopolje, regions that are often represented on stage, with emphasis on proper maintenance, repairs and handling. ​ The seminar starts with a short theoretical overview of the regions and costume types, followed by a hands‑on session where participants will work directly on costumes from these areas under expert guidance. The Center for Traditional Cultural Heritage unites the activities of the Costume Lending Library and Workshop with the International Folklore Review Zagreb. It operates as a branch in the Travno Cultural Center. In 2021, the Costume Lending Library and Workshop changed its name to the Center for Traditional Cultural Heritage because, as an institution, it expanded its scope far beyond its original purpose. The Center remains a specialized institution focused on collecting, renting, reconstructing, restoring, and conserving folk costumes, folkloric attire, and traditional textile items. It also promotes and explores various ways to use these costumes in modern life, conducts educational programs, and researches diverse possibilities for their folkloric and stage applications. In addition, the Center organizes the International Folklore Review Zagreb, the largest and most prestigious folk event in the country. By the size of its collection and the scope of its activities, it is a unique institution of its kind in the Republic of Croatia. Over more than seventy years, the collection has amassed over 36,000 diverse pieces of folk costumes, attire, and stage folkloric props from around 300 different locations.
