The joint initiative of the Ravno do dna editorial team and Superval aims to connect live performances by young bands with young music and culture reporters and photojournalists. With mentoring from experienced journalists and culture workers, participants develop communication skills and learn to clearly shape and articulate their interests in the performing arts – from concert impressions to a finished article ready for publication.
Mentors are Zoran Stajčić, co-founder and editor-in-chief of the portal, and Ivan Laić, philosopher, Croatian studies graduate and deputy editor-in-chief. Over four two-hour meetings, participants get to know the working methods of a regionally relevant, critically acclaimed media outlet, learn about the structure of journalistic work through current examples, and gain insight into how an online newsroom operates behind the scenes.
The workshop is intended for young people regardless of whether they study journalism, political science, humanities – or haven’t enrolled in university at all. What matters is an interest in music and motivation to grow your music knowledge and writing skills; being an active musician is not a problem – many music journalists are also performers themselves. The mentors’ role is to challenge and encourage; the goal for each participant is to write a piece good enough to be published on the portal. Even if that doesn’t happen, the ability to write and structure texts remains a key tool for many other written formats.
All previous Poletarac participants are invited to join this new workshop cycle, either online or in person, and continue developing their journalism skills.
