Healthy Breakfast – Treats for a Healthy Heart is a workshop designed for children aged 9 to 12 who love pancakes and waffles and want to discover how to make them more balanced and nutritious. 🥣🍓 Through cooking together, kids learn that sweet food can be part of a healthy diet when we focus on ingredients, moderation and home-made recipes.
We start with a short conversation about food and feelings: why we love sweet treats, when we usually eat pancakes and waffles, and why we associate them with joy and special moments. Then we introduce a “better version” of ingredients in a hands-on way: wholegrain or mixed flour instead of only white, less added sugar, more fruit for natural sweetness and home-made spreads instead of store-bought ones. 🍌🌾
In the practical part, children take part in mixing the batter, cooking waffles and pancakes under supervision and plating their creations. We prepare the batter in advance and make a forest fruit sauce and a home-made “nutella” from hazelnuts and cocoa. To finish, each child decorates their own “Valentine’s plate” – topping waffles or pancakes with fruit, sauce and home-made nutella, and inventing a unique name for their dessert. ❤️✨
